You could use a basic fabric such as Knitwit Rhonda, or you could use one of the new Ambition plain knits with the fancy knit as a shawl or wrap to dress up. Kwik•Sew 3454 Pants XS-S-M-L-XL in one pattern....$13-50 Pull-on pants, elastic waist, flared or straight legs. Get the modern look, fitted around the hips, no bulky pleats and a flattering shape. Sized for high stretch fabrics, but works very well if you cut one size bigger for lower stretch fabrics. Use the Affinity stretch wovens, or the Stretch Suiting charcoal (no. 28), or the Renown double knits or indeed a basic such as Monaco. Burda 8029 Tops 8-18 in one pattern................$13-50 Knit tops with round neckline, hood or separate cowl. Suitable for jumperknits such as Ambition Plain Knit (4 colours in this portfolio) or Cosy Knit (black in this portfolio and other colours in Autumn and Winter 06 portfolios still available). I have made it up in the Ambition Red (combining the plain and fancy knit) and I’ll have it at the showings. It may also turn up in a future issue of Australian Stitches magazine. When using knits you could leave out the waist darts and shape the side seams. If you don’t need a collar, Kwik•Sew 2694, which is designed for knits, might be a better bet.
